MASKED raiders stole a large quantity of cigarettes after targeting a Burton shop.

Detectives said two men entered the Co-op store in Church Hill Street, Winshill, wearing balaclavas at 1.50pm yesterday.

One of the thieves jumped behind the counter and grabbed the haul of cigarettes.

No staff or customers were injured during the raid.

The pair fled in what is believed to have been a dark-coloured car following the incident.

A second dark-coloured vehicle was also seen being driven suspiciously in the area at the time.

One of the thieves was wearing a black top with a turquoise T-shirt underneath, black trousers, blue trainers and black and white gloves.

The other wore dark-coloured trousers, a black leather jacket, light grey hooded top with a red pattern, gloves and black trainers.

The store was closed for some time following the theft while officers from Staffordshire Police began their investigations.

It reopened at around 3.15pm.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the raid.

Anyone with any information should call DC Graham Tomlinson on 101, quoting incident number 260, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
