Massive fall in crime at major rock music event

POLICE in Leicestershire are pleased to report a 70 per cent reduction in crime at this year’s Download music festival in Castle Donington.

A total of 91 crimes have been reported to the police compared to 301 last year – a reduction of 69.8 per cent.

The majority of offences were theft from tents – 53 this year compared to 192 last year – a decrease of 72.4 per cent.

Officers took 9 reports of theft from person compared to 64 in 2013 and there were just 4 reports of theft from motor vehicle (compared to 14 last year).

There were 11 reports of general theft (compared to 14) and 5 people were dealt with for drug offences which is the same as 2013.

Detective Inspector Johnny Monks said; “Crime at Download has always been low but this year has been really exceptional. The figures reflect the work and cooperation that goes on.”
