MATERNITY services at Burton’s hospital have been lauded as some of the best in the country in an awards scheme aimed at recognising excellence in care.
Midwives, nurses and doctors on the ward at Queen’s Hospital have been singled out as one of the top 15 maternity providers in the country, after being short-listed in the excellence in maternity care category of the awards run by the CHKS, the UK’s leading provider of healthcare intelligence. It puts the Belvedere Road site in the top 10 per cent of providers nationally.
Gill Salmon, interim head of midwifery at Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Queen’s, said: “We are delighted that our service has been recognised in this way. It is a great achievement to have reached the top 10 per cent of maternity providers and we are proud of the quality of care we deliver.”
Queen’s was short-listed after judges analysed nine clinical indicators and results from the Care Quality Commission’s latest maternity survey.
The trust has now been invited to submit further evidence before a panel will decide on the winning department. Officials will also visit the ward before a final decision is made. Lisa Kean, from CHKS, said Burton was to be congratulated on reaching the final 15 and for the quality of maternity services that it provides.
Queens beat out competition from 148 maternity units in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
