A 20-YEAR-OLD man who vanished without trace after a night out with friends on New Year's Eve has returned home safe and well.

Derbyshire Police said Dale Rowlinson-Bates arrived back at his Coton Park home at 6pm, ending hours of worry for his mother, Julie Rowlinson-Bates, 44, and her family.

In a statement released at 8.17am this morning (Thursday), a force spokesman said: "I have just been informed our missing person, Dale Rowlinson-Bates, returned home to South Derbyshire safe and well yesterday evening at around 6pm.

"He had stayed in the West Midlands but as his phone battery had run out friends and family were unable to contact him."

Dale had previously disappeared after going to a rave at Birmingham's Q Club with six friends on New Year's Eve.

He had last been seen at around 5.30am on New Year's Day - nine hours after sending his mother a 'happy new year' text.

After Dale failed to return home, police launched a search as concerns grew for his welfare.

I trust the police will prosecute him for wasting police time. Didn't any of his six friends have phones?. Couldn't he have used a land-line phone?. Such selfishness.
