BOSSES at a Burton brewing giant rewarded loyal staff who have clocked up more than 2,300 years between them with a day at the races.

More than 60 employees from Molson Coors were treated to a day at the Grand National at Aintree for serving the firm for a combined 2,362 years.

UK and Ireland managing director Simon Cox invited long servers to attend the iconic racing festival with a partner in recognition of their dedication to the business over many decades.

People living near to Burton travelled in two coaches in a manner that was reminiscent of the brewery day trips of yesteryear.

After enjoying refreshments, the group set off to meet colleagues from around the country at the famous racecourse.

Two employees – Viv Harper and Bob MacDonald – topped the league in terms of long service racking up 46 years long service each.

“It was a really nice gesture to receive the invite and wonderful to be in a crowd of people I have known for many years,” said Mr MacDonald, who attended with his wife Carole.

“I started work at the brewery in 1967 and have been in the brewing department for the last 46 years and have some great memories of working with some tremendous people.

“It was a fantastic day with a great atmosphere.”

The day trip came hot on the heels of Molson Coors’ securing a deal with Aintree Racecourse for Doom Bar, the UK’s number one cask beer, which was available to racegoers for the first time this year.

Mr Cox said: “The Grand National is the world’s greatest race and we have the greatest people.

“It’s incredible to think Bob and Viv have seen over 46 years in our business and this loyalty truly deserves to be recognised.

“It was a spectacular day for all.”

Viv Harper, who is the joint longest-serving employee at the firm, told the Mail: “It was wonderful to be invited to the Grand National, something I had never done before. I took my daughter Kathryn and we spent a lovely day taking in the scenery and people watching.

“I’ve worked at the maltings for 46 years and it was lovely to be part of the occasion – thank you for the invite.”
