A WOMAN from Burton has been fined by magistrates because her 16-year-old daughter failed to attend school regularly.

Anna Mayne, from Bladon Street, in Winshill, was sent a warning notice last August by Staffordshire County Council because her daughter Chelsea had missed 125 sessions at Abbott Beyne School.

She was told a penalty notice would be issued if Chelsea did not attend school, which she failed to do. She went to school on 16 days but missed 24. Seven of these were authorised absences but 17 were unauthorised.

A penalty notice was sent in November which was not paid, despite two further opportunities.

Mayne, who is on benefits, did not attend Burton Magistrates’ Court yesterday but had earlier pleaded guilty.

In a statement she said Chelsea refused ‘point blank’ to go to school.

Magistrates ordered that she pay a total of £180.
