PEOPLE living in North West Leicestershire have been declared among the healthiest in the East Midlands.
The study, conducted by Public Health England, found that those living in Leicestershire have 22 indicators that perform significantly higher than the average seen in the rest of England.
These include figures relating to smoking while pregnant, childhood obesity rates, physical activity in adults and hip fractures amongst old people.
Ernie White, Leicestershire's cabinet member for health, welcomed the study.
"We have made good progress since last year to tackle obesity rates in adults and children and I am delighted to see more and more adults are starting to take their health more seriously," he said.
"We cannot be complacent and the county council will continue to work with its partners to use innovative schemes to enhance the health of the public."
