A POPULAR motocross club is on the lookout for a new place to call home – after revealing it is leaving its current track after nearly 30 years.
Burton Motocross Club is appealing to landowners and farmers across the town to come forward with suggestions of a place where it could set up base, after losing the use of its current track in South Derbyshire.
Club chairman Barry Jones told the Mail that it would allow the group to come to Burton, but would also bring to an end a ‘fantastic’ legacy.
He said: “Despite being Burton Motocross Club, our track has been based at Stenson Fields in South Derbyshire for nearly 30 years.
“However, farmer John Foreman and his wife have decided to retire and this means we will no longer be able to use the land any more.
“This has meant we are launching an appeal to help find a new home.
“We understand that people might be put off by the thought of the motorbikes and the noise, but this would only be for three or four race meetings a year.
“The club would also like to set up a base in the town so we can live up to our name.
“We are looking for landowners or farmers who might be able to help to get in touch so we can try to sort something out as soon as we can.
“I personally would also like to move to reassure people that this does not spell the end for the club – we will find a new site and will be safe and secure for many years to come.
“People who could potentially help us also need to know that we are not a fly-by-night organisation. We want somewhere we can build a legacy like we had in Stenson.
“This comes at a time when I am stepping down as chairman and I would love my final act to be to secure a new site for the club, and to see it given a good starting base for many years to come.
“We would also like to thank John and his wife for all the support over the years.”
