FANS will get their first glimpse of Burton Albion’s new faces tonight - and Gary Rowett says all four are eager to pull on the famous yellow and black for the first time.

George Taft, John Mousinho, Lucas Akins and Stuart Beavon will be involved as the Brewers head to Ilkeston in their first pre-season friendly of the summer (7.30pm).

A trialist goalkeeper will also be involved, with Rowett expected to field two different sides before and after half-time, as will one or two youth-teamers.

And the Brewers manager will tell all of his charges to just go out and enjoy themselves at the New Manor Ground.

“We’ve done a lot of physical work in the first couple of weeks and some of the players will have been thinking ‘let’s get through this until the games start’,” said Rowett.

“That’s not to say that training has been aimless, as we’ve been working hard, but they’ll all be looking forward to pulling on a shirt again.

“It’s been a while since we played so there’s a little bit of excitement, not least from some of the new lads.

“So we’ll just let them go out and enjoy themselves - we won’t give them too many instructions.

“Everyone will get at least 45 minutes – that’s always the focus in the first game.”

Five players will not feature tonight due to various injury complaints.

Jimmy Phillips (posterior cruciate ligament) and Damien McCrory are long-term absentees, while Billy Kee (also knee) has not returned to full training yet.

In addition, defender Shane Cansdell-Sherriff and midfielder Lee Bell both picked up minor knocks while on the summer break in Portugal and will not be risked.

To make up the numbers, Rowett may bring in one or two more trialists, but says he is more inclined to look to the youth team.

“Some of the lads from the youth team have been impressing, and it’s important to involve them,” he said.

“I’d rather do that than bring in six or seven trialists just to get the numbers up.”
