TRUANCY is becoming a thing of the past at a school celebrating a record-breaking attendance figure.

A total of 97 pupils at Belmont Primary School, in Belmont Street, Swadlincote, turned up every day during the autumn term – helping the school achieve a 96 per cent attendance rate.

Head teacher Sue Walker said: “The 97 pupils represented almost a quarter of the school, so we are extremely pleased.

“The children have done very well.

“We’ve worked very hard with parents and families and they’ve given us great support. They understand the importance of education.

“We’ve also worked hard with the children and are rewarding them with certificates.

“They love coming to school because of the exciting learning taking place.”

She said although governors were delighted, Belmont would continue striving to improve attendance.
