A RECRUITMENT drive by a South Derbyshire air cadet squadron is proving to be a success.

Young people from Swadlincote and surrounding areas have been knocking on the 1211 Squadron’s door in order to take part in activities ranging from flying and gliding to training and target shooting.

New members started to flock in at the beginning of the month and can call in at the 1211 Squadrons Headquarters, in John Street, near Eureka Park, on any Tuesday and Thursday evening up.

Squadron operations officer, Rob Moore, said: “We are a high achieving youth organisation which can offer a massive variety of activities alongside our flying programme.

“Our aim is to give every new recruit the chance to fly in a twin seat aircraft flown by a Royal Air Force pilot by the end of this year.”
