ANOTHER empty pub in Swadlincote could be turned into homes if plans are given the go-ahead.

Applicant, JA Davis Contractors Ltd, whose principle director lived in The White Lion Inn, in Mount Road, Castle Gresley, while their parents were landlords, has applied to turn the pub into a home and build another two homes within the gardens.

The developers hope to create three detached four bedroom family homes and plans include the reduction of 17 car parking spaces to nine.

In plans submitted to South Derbyshire District Council, the applicant said: “The public house is considered economically unviable, resulting in its use becoming redundant – with the consequence of the site remaining vacant and unused.

“The development would allow a sustainable and economic re-use of an unused and vacant site for the formation of three detached family homes.”

It is also believed that the building has functioned as a pub for the last 100 years, but is not a listed building or in a conservation area.
