HOMEOWNERS in Staffordshire have been reminded to lock their doors as part of a month-long initiative.
National Home Security Month will run throughout October and aims to raise awareness about the importance of home security.
Figures from the Office for National Statistics show that Staffordshire has lower than average domestic burglary rates, with 2.5 per cent of residents reporting a break-in within a 12-month period.
But figures also show the number of burglaries can by increase by 20 per cent after the clocks are put back by one hour.
As part of the initiative, home security specialists Yale will offer a free mobile phone app which gives burglary statistics within a one mile radius.
