BREAKING - Workforce future safe after train firm nets contract

Written byROB SMYTH

THE future of a train building firm which employs hundreds of people in South Derbyshire has been secured after Bombardier was this morning named the winner of a £1 billion contract.

The company has beaten off competition from foreign rivals Hitachi and CAF to secure the Crossrail deal to build 65 trains, which will operate across London.

The contract win is a major boost for the company and its 1,500-strong workforce.

The move is also a boost for companies in Bombardier’s supply chain, many of which are based in the region.
