'Ban pesticides to stop death of British bees'

Written byBY ADRIAN JENKINS

ENVIRONMENTALISTS are urging people to ask garden centres to stop selling pesticides linked to the decline of bees.

Friends of the Earth (FoE) made the call after retaliers Notcutts, Hillier, Squires and Blue Diamond joined B&Q, Homebase and Wickes by removing the insecticides from their shelves.

FoE West Midlands spokesman Chris Crean also urged the Government to bolster the retailers’ action.

“With bee numbers plummeting, it must take urgent action to safeguard these crucial pollinators by backing a ban and introducing a bee action plan to tackle all the threats they face,” he said.
