A BURTON womens’ group have been dancing off their Christmas over indulgence with a belly dancing class.

The Burton Belles WI danced off the festive feasting with a belly dancing class at their latest meeting on January 10.

Diana Mehira, a belly dancing instructor from Derby, demonstrated the art of belly dancing along with several of her students, who are all at various levels of ability, and gave a talk on the origins of belly dancing and the music used.

Helen Hall, president of Burton Belles WI, said: “Members were then treated to two dances, which were incredibly beautiful and mesmerising to watch. Once members had seen how the professionals did it they were then put to the test. Diana showed a few moves that the girls attempted to copy using muscles they never knew they had.”

Further information about belly dancing and Diana’s academy of dance is available by visiting www.mehirajewel.webs.com

The Burton Belles next meet at St John Ambulance HQ, in Millers Lane, Burton on Wednesday, February 13, at 7.15pm.

The speakers will be members of The Little Theatre Company, who will talk about their production of Calendar Girls.

Admission for non-members costs £4.

Further information on the Burton Belles is available by phoning Helen Hall on 07792 662505.
