Benefits Gold Cardin renewal plea

Written byBY HELEN KREFT

GOLD card holders in South Derbyshire are at risk of losing the benefits the scheme offers for older and disabled people, if they don’t renew.

Derbyshire County Council is urging people to renew before March, when most cards expire, invalidating country-wide bus travel, business discounts and library benefits.

Councillor Simon Spencer, deputy leader and cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “You won’t automatically be sent a new card, so it’s important that you take steps to get a new one.

“We’re pleased that so many people have already asked for, and received, their new cards but there are still a good number of cardholders out there who we haven’t heard from.”

Of the total number of Derbyshire Gold Card holders about two thirds have already renewed.

Disabled cardholders have been warned they may not be able to renew online due to a need for proof of eligibility.

Cardholders can renew online at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/goldcard, or contact their local district or borough council to request a new card.
