Biggest police raid in Burton's history sees 15 suspects processed at magistrates' court

Written byBY ADRIAN JENKINS

FIFTEEN people snared by the biggest police drugs bust in Burton’s history have appeared in court.

They attended preliminary hearings at Burton Magistrates’ Court to face proceedings which took four-and-a-half hours to complete.

Thirteen were remanded in custody and two freed on unconditional bail as court one was reserved to process them.

Prosecutor Lisa Newman outlined the charges against each suspect to presiding magistrate Susan Burton and one colleague while many of the town’s most recognisable defence solicitors represented one or more clients.

Up to two dozen onlookers watched proceedings from the public gallery under the watchful eyes of three police officers.

Suspects facing the most serious charges were ordered to attend Stafford Crown Court on January 25.

Those on lesser charges were instructed to appear at Burton Magistrates’ Court by videolink on Wednesday before attending again on March 14 to be committed to Stafford Crown Court.
