A YOUNG driver, who had only recently passed her test, was left counting the cost of not seeing signs pointing out rising town centre bollards.

The 19-year-old women’s 51 plate Peugeot 206 suffered extensive damage to its front end and leaqked a trail and oil from the car after she tried to follow a bus into a restricted part of town.

The crash happened at about 1pm yesterday at the end of High Street, near Burton Library.

The driver’s father, told the Mail: “She’s a new driver – it should be a £30 fine rather than bollards.

“She’s only just passed her test – the damage is disproportionate to the offence – with the technology we have this is just stupid.”
