Boss of Hatton food firm launches degree

Written byBY MARK MCKAY

THE boss of a major employer in Hatton has helped to launch the UK’s first accredited food engineering degree.

Fiona Kendrick, CEO for Nestle UK and Ireland, which has a base in Hatton, launched the project with the minister of state for agriculture and food, David Heath, earlier this month.

The degree, which will be run by Sheffield Hallam University, will be dedicated entirely to food and drink manufacturing.

Ms Kendrick said: “At Nestle, one of the biggest challenges we face is recruiting the best talent for our business.

“Our success depends on our ability to remain competitive and innovate however a lack of engineering and technical expertise will hold our industry back.”

“The graduate excellence degree is a ground-breaking initiative which will equip graduates with the technical skills and commercial acumen our industry needs. It is an opportunity for food manufacturers to take control of their future and help shape a pipeline of talent.”
