FIVE burglars were caught in the act during a break-in on a South Derbyshire farm.
The intruders set off an alarm after forcing their way into a barn on farmland in Moira Road, Overseal.
The men escaped empty handed after the bungled burglary was interrupted by the land owner and farm staff who went to investigate.
The five men were spotted running over a field towards the A444 Acresford Road, where they drove off towards Burton in a blue vehicle similar to a Land Rover Discovery.
Following the incident, police are urging farmers to make sure their sites are fitted with alarms.
South Derbyshire Section Inspector Nigel Lidsey said: “Luckily, nothing was stolen from the farm but this incident demonstrates the value in having outbuildings properly alarmed and secure.
“Alarms can act as a deterrent to would-be burglars to stop a crime in the first place, or can alert you if there is a break-in and give you a chance to call police straight away.”
Anyone with any information is asked to call Derbyshire Police on 101.
