Burton market hall renovations hot up for opening

Written byHELEN KREFT

MULTI-MILLION pound renovation work is well under way at Burton’s historic market hall.

The hall which closed on Wednesday, July 31 is due to open in just three months as it is now subject to a £1.6 million revamp which will see the introduction of restaurants and cafes, hot food takeaways, business and leisure, as well as the traditional shops and stalls.

However, the ambitious plans have not been without controversy with East Staffordshire Borough Council bearing the brunt of the outcry from stallholders and members of the public.

Many of the stallholders have shifted to the temporary market on the top floor of the Octagon Centre while the work is being done.
