A BURTON packaging company which supplies bakeware to some of the top names in the retail world is offering the public the chance to pick up some bargains — by opening its first factory shop.
The new Pickit and Packit factory shop opened its doors for the first time yesterday at the company’s base on the Ryknild Industrial Estate, opposite the Pirelli Stadium in Derby Road.
The company, founded in 2004 by Burton businessmen Jeff Salt and Paul Lawson, last year bought out leading bakeware and kitchenware distribution firm Paton Calvert, which moved from its previous base in Southampton.
Beth Lawson, who will be adding to her role as ‘odd job woman’ to run the shop, said its opening was the logical progression in the company’s development.
She told the Mail: “We already distribute bakeware and kitchenware to companies such as John Lewis but this is a new thing for us to have our own factory shop open to the public.
“It’s the next step for the company and it’s an exciting new venture for the firm and for me personally.
“The main thing we wanted to do is to allow customers to save money by buying directly from us. There will be a lot of large discounts so people will be able to pick up some bargains.
“We didn’t just want to do the bakeware and kitchenware so we will also be selling unusual gift items, Christmas wrapping and cards, birthday cards and gifts and Hallowe’en items.”
The shop opening is the latest feather in the cap for Pickit and Packit, which announced in June it had landed a contract to parcel up more than a million Christmas gift boxes for high street giant Boots, with the creation of 25 new jobs.
The new factory store is open from Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm and on Saturdays from 9am to 1pm. More information is available by calling 01283 539829.
