A SPECIALIST firm which provides seating for the disabled from its base near Burton is giving youngsters the opportunity to climb the jobs ladder.
Specialised Orthotic Services, which is based at Fauld Industrial Park, near Tutbury, is offering six apprenticeships to school-leavers.
The positions will be split, with five working on the shop floor and the final post revolving around office-related tasks.
Production manager Jon Prescott said: “I can confirm that we will be offering six apprenticeships to youngsters.
“We operate in a very niche market and therefore it is not always that easy to recruit people for our exact needs and work.
“So offering these apprenticeships allows us to get people in from a young age and train them in our environment and mould them into what we need as an employee.
“This will allow us to build the business in the way that we want and in future could see more similar opportunities become available.
“This is the start of an ongoing situation at the firm that can only be of benefit to us, the area and local people.
“This is obviously different to just offering jobs as we are offering apprenticeships — so we are helping school leavers, youngsters who may be struggling to find employment get a step on the ladder.
“We are a local company, which employs people from the surrounding area and as well as helping our business grow, this will also help the local job market and also the younger end of the market where people are struggling.
“Anyone interested is urged to visit the national apprenticeships scheme website for more details.”
The company provides specialist seating for people with serious and complex disabilities. The firm designs and manufactures the equipment and tailors it to the needs of the user.
