He suddenly found himself without an income and unable to cope, leaving him facing mortgage problems and issues with paying his council tax.
At his first appointment with the mental health team he was unkempt, dishevelled and anxious. He was in despair and simply did not know what to do.
Things seemed to be on the right track once the CAB adviser helped him to claim benefits, supported him to change his mortgage and bills and halt council tax proceedings, but it was not to last.
Six months after he disengaged with the service, he was sectioned. John felt unable to cope with the complexity of his situation and had let things slide once again.
The mortgage company was seeking repossession of his home, and he was receiving no benefits as he had not felt able to deal with the paperwork.
The case was immediately resumed, and following further work, repossession was averted and he was able to claim benefits.
Thanks to support from the CAB, John is now living in social house and has been assigned a support worker.
