AMATEUR thespians have been sent a raft of good luck messages – from the playwright and stars behind the popular comedy production, Calendar Girls.
The ladies - and three men - of Burton’s Little Theatre Company will take to the stage in their version of the popular play at the Brewhouse next month.
As part of preparations, playwright Tim Firth and a host of actresses who have starred in the recent UK tour offered their support.
Elaine Pritchard, who plays ‘Ruth’, said: “We’ve been doing our own fund-raising since September for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, which has included our own cheeky Calendar Girls-style calendar.
“So getting the signed messages of good luck has been a real boost.
“We’re hoping to raise £2,500 by the end of March and we are over half-way there.”
The show runs from Tuesday, March 12 to Saturday, March 16 at the Brewhouse at 7.30pm, with a 2.30pm Saturday matinee.
It is based on the true story of a group of Yorkshire Womens’s Institute members who stripped off for an alternative WI calendar to raise money for a local cancer ward.
The Little Theatre Company’s cast has received signed good luck messages from Tim Firth and the actresses who brought Calendar Girls to the stage in Derby late last year – including Ruth Madoc, Lesley Joseph, Kacey Ainsworth, Deena Payne, Sue Holderness and Camilla Dallerup.
Amateur groups have been given an 18-month window of opportunity to perform the show, with a percentage of performance fees going to Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.
During the week of the show there will be a fund-raising raffle every night in the bar and the chance to make donations to the Burton Calendar Girls fund.
