A GRUELLING challenge walk that has helped raise more than £30,000 for charity is set to take place for a sixth time.
The Ivanhoe Way challenge takes in 37 miles of North West Leicestershire in less than 15 hours and raises money for Wishes 4 Kids.
The event is the brainchild of Richard and Angela Bebbington, who decided to organise it in a bid to raise cash for children and youngsters who are life limited or terminally ill.
Mr Bebbington told the Mail: “We are pleased to announce applications for the sixth annual Ivanhoe Way Challenge are now open.
“The challenge, to walk the 37 mile Ivanhoe Way route within 15 hours, takes place on Saturday, June 21.
“Since the event was launched, more than 230 people have completed the challenge, raising more than £30,000 for Leicestershire charity Wishes 4 Kids.
“2014 will also see the Ivanhoe Way ‘half’ challenge taking place on the same day.
“The 18 mile route will follow the same route.
“With the ‘full’ challenge starting at The Royal Hotel in Ashby, the route passes Staunton Harold Reservoir, through the rocky outcrops of Charnwood Forest, out to Bagworth, and back along the route of the Ashby Canal, via Shackerstone.
“Once back in Ashby, there will be a well earned meal and drink waiting for the walkers at The Royal Hotel.
“There is an administration fee of £18.00 per application and each participant is encouraged to raise sponsorship for Wishes 4 Kids.
“There has been lots of interest already for this year’s challenge and with places limited to 100 early applications are advised.”
More than £7,000 was raised as part of annual 37 mile walk last year
The fifth annual Ivanhoe Way Challenge saw 56 people take part and raise money.
Mr Bebbington added: “We are hoping to beat last year’s total.”
