A RAPIST who subjected two children to a sustained period of abuse is today beginning an 18-year jail sentence.
Stephen Cleverley, of Dysons Close, Measham, was found guilty of 11 charges of sexual abuse, including rape and indecent assault, and police have not ruled out there being more victims who have yet to come forward.
The 48-year-old committed the offences on two children between 1997 and 2008 in the Ashby and Measham areas.
Cleverley’s reign of terror was finally ended after he was reported by his victims.
He was jailed at Leicester Crown Court.
Detective Constable Andy Spence, of Leicestershire Police, who led the investigation, said: “Cleverley has been found guilty of sexually abusing two children over a long period of time.
“Both victims showed tremendous courage in coming forward and reporting this man.
“I want to praise them not only for this but also for coming to court and giving evidence against him. Hopefully the victims and their families are able to start new chapters in their lives knowing that the man that hurt them is starting a lengthy prison sentence.”
Police are now eager to reach any other potential victims of Cleverley in the hope that now he is behind bars they may be willing to come forward.
DC Spence said: “There is a possibility that Cleverley may have committed other crimes which may not been reported to the police.
“We know it’s not always easy to report a crime of this nature, but we would like to reassure people that we have specialist officers and access to a number of partner agencies who can help and support them.”
