THOUSANDS of people packed Burton's marketplace for the annual Christmas light switch-on.
Revellers were treated to a live stage performance from 2007 X Factor finalists Same Difference, the Touch FM roadshow, and a dazzling fireworks display from Pyrotex Fireworx last night.
The brother and sister pop duo, Sean and Sarah Smith, switched on the lights at 5pm — assisted by Burton Mail competition winner Fiona Lane.
Speaking afterwards, the pair said they were thrilled to be in Burton.
Sean said: “We just love this time of year, everyone has come out to celebrate Christmas and it has just been an absolutely amazing time".
Santa’s grotto also saw people queueing round the corner.
Town centre manager Paul Howard said he was really pleased with how this year’s switch on had gone.
He said: “I think it went really well — the fireworks were amazing.”
