A TEENAGER has been given a warning after he was spotted riding his moped across a South Derbyshire park at night.

Derbyshire Police revealed that it had handed the 17-year-old, from Newhall, a Section 59 order in a bid to try to put an end to antisocial moped riders in the area after incidents began to rise in the past few months.

The teenager was caught out by PCSO Kate Bottomley, from the area’s Safer Neighbourhood policing team, during a regular patrol in Maurice Lea Memorial Park, in Church Gresley,

PCSO Bottomley said: “The moped rider had been driving on the memorial park after dark, which has very clear dangers to him and other people.

“He was given the warning along with words of advice about his driving.

“We’re trying to educate as many people as possible about road safety, sticking to speed limits and thinking of others, and we will carry on doing so over the next few months.”

Section 59 warnings are handed to motorists who are deemed to be driving in an anti-social way, such as off road where there are restrictions.

The action came as part of the Safer Neighbourhood team’s ongoing road safety work in the area.

Officers have been working with motorists to remind them of the rules of the road and will be carrying out operations such as speed checks in the coming weeks.

They will also be doing stop checks on people using mopeds in a bid to prevent them causing a nuisance to people across the area.

The latest incident took place at around 8.50pm on Tuesday. Details have just been released.

Anyone wanting to report an incident should call Derbyshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
