A COMMUNITY Catholic church is undergoing a restoration project that will see its exteriors greatly improved.
Our Lady of Lourdes, in Station Road, Ashby, which welcomes hundreds of worshippers each week, will see its renowned stained glass windows carefully restored to their former glory.
Installed in the late 1930s, the windows have gradually buckled after exposure to the weather.
Designed to be a 20th century re-interpretation of 12th century stained glass, Bonsers Restoration & Conservation will ensure the windows are watertight as part of the 12 week project.
Other works consist of decoration, stone replacement and repointing as well as internal joinery works.
The grade II listed church was completed in 1920
Firm managing director Jo Bonser said: “Overall the church is a very well looked after building, it just needs a bit of work which is what we have been brought in to provide.”
