FASHION and fund-raising collided this week, when the Burton YMCA held a Cocktails and Couture evening to boost funds and raise awareness about their work.
More than 100 people went along to the Pirelli Stadium yesterday evening to enjoy a catwalk show and a tipple, and have a look around the various stalls set up by companies from around the local areas.
It was the second event of this kind which the charity has run, and organisers said they had been delighted by the response.
Appeals coordinator Gillian Cox said: “It was so good when we held it in February, and we tried really hard to make sure everybody had a good time, that we decided to hold it again.
“It’s really exciting.
“Something like this gets us out there to different people that might now necessarily know about the work of the YMCA.
“We are one of the largest charities in Burton, and every penny raised locally is spent helping local vulnerable people. We want to tell as many people as we can that we are here in Burton and we are here for good.”
A number of youngsters who have been helped by the YMCA acted as models for the evening. Escape hairdressers, based on Borough Road in Burton, took responsibility for hairdos, and clothes were provided by Debenhams in Lichfield.
Stallholders selling their wares came from Ashby, Swadlincote, Rolleston and other locations nearby to support the event, which was sponsored by Burton-based Creative Bundles.
Ian Livingston, who runs the company with his wife Jeanie, said: “Before we got involved with the YMCA, I didn’t have a clue about the numbers of people they help in Burton. It’s frightening.”
