ROLLESTON folk fighting an application to build 100 homes on a former school playing field were given a last minute reprieve earlier today, when a decision on the plans was deferred for another month.
Community groups opposed to the plans for the field of the former Forest of Needwood School say the proposals are premature as the village’s neighbourhood development plan – which has been put together by the community and opposes this site – is in its final stages and should be taken into account.
And it seems the planning board agreed with them, as at the start of their meeting this afternoon, they voted to delay their discussions until they had read their development plan.
Councillor Martin Blencowe, chair of the committee, said he thought it would be in the best interests of the community if the board was fully informed.
It follows a protest by residents which took place at the site when councillors visited earlier in the day.
Banners and placards appealed for them to take note of the fact the community had spoken out against developing this site in its development plan.
