THE location of a potential peace garden dedicated to a Burton war hero, who was the most decorated soldier in the First World War, could be changed.
In June, the Mail reported that Winshill parish councillor Dennis Fletcher said he hopes to transform land in Vancouver Drive into a ‘peace wood’ dedicated to William Coltman.
Now, Mr Fletcher has suggested land in Mill Hill Lane could be a better site for the garden.
William Coltman, who was born in Rangemore and later lived in Winshill, received the Victoria Cross, the highest military award for gallantry, as well as the Military Medal and Distinguished Conduct Medal twice.
Renovation work is also expected to start on Mr Coltman’s grave, in St Mark’s Church, Winshill, following a successful fund-raising campaign by the Victoria Cross Trust.
