Community competition to design permanent mosaic

Written byBY HELEN KREFT

SCHOOLS and individuals are being asked to get their creative minds in gear to design a mosaic which will become a permanent heritage reminder.

Moira Furnace is organising a free Easter heritage event, and as part of the celebrations is inviting children and young adults, schools and colleges, to enter a competition to design a community mosaic of the furnace, a narrow boat or the Ashby Canal or a mixture of everything that relates to the site.

The winning design will be available on the family fun event for the visitors to start to create the mosaic.

The finished mosaic will be located on the bank of the Ashby Canal alongside Moira Furnace Museum and will become a permanent reminder of its heritage and be seen by everyone who visits the site.

The Easter heritage event starts with the family fun day on Friday, March 29, and runs until Monday, April 1, from 10am until 3pm.

There will be craft workshops with local artists, an Easter egg hunt, story telling, brass band and more.

The winner will be announced at the Family Fun Day at 11am and the deadline for the competition is Friday, March 15. Further information is available by visiting www.moirafurnace.org
