CONCERNS have been raised about the impact a huge rail hub set to be built in South Derbyshire would have on a nearby village.
A member of the public spoke out about his opposition to the five million sq ft rail exchange set to be built near Etwall at the latest meeting of Repton Parish Council.
He said: “It will bring much more traffic into the village and there will be people looking for housing – it is going to be a massive area. Don’t let anyone kid you into thinking they are all going to live in Hilton.”
A consultation on the hub with residents and local authorities in South Derbyshire is due to begin in March.
The project is expected to be the biggest planning application in the history of South Derbyshire and could create 6,000 jobs.
Council chairman John Shortt admitted many people in the village were concerned about the project.
