Cops and council bid to put end to parking woes

Written byROB SMYTH

COUNCIL chiefs and police officers are set to take a closer look at an area in a village which has been plagued with traffic and parking problems.

Derbyshire Police and Derbyshire County Council are set to investigate a multitude of issues in Linton Road, Castle Gresley.

This long-running saga has drawn calls for change for several years as people continue to illegally park as they use a nearby post office and drivers navigate the road at high speed.

Members of the public asked the council and the police to take another look at the issue after fears that there would be a major accident ‘before long’ were raised again at a recent meeting of Castle Gresley Parish Council as well as at a Safer Neighbourhood Forum event in the area.

Both the council and the police force have revealed that they are going to have a closer look at issues in the area in a bid to come up with a solution.

Police officers have spoken to the owners of the post office in the past in a bid to put a stop to frequent traffic violations taking place outside the premises.

Officers from Derbyshire Police were forced to act following a deluge of complaints by residents who live near to the post office in Linton Road.

The owner was told that people parking on double yellow lines outside was ‘unacceptable’ and needed to stop.

PCSO David McMillan said: “We are working with traffic enforcement wardens from Derbyshire County Council to make sure they can patrol in the area in order to catch people out.”

Castle Gresley parish councillor Sheila Jackson backed up complaints from residents that parking outside the post office was still causing problems – again raising fears that a pedestrian could be injured as a result.

It was revealed that several parish councillors had been approached about the long-running bone of contention in Castle Gresley – people parking on double yellow lines outside the post office.

Mrs Jackson said: “People take no notice of the double yellow lines outside.
