THE police and crime commissioner for Leicestershire is on the lookout for people willing to give up their time to visit the police custody cells – on a voluntary basis.
Sir Clive Loader is searching for members of the community to join his group of Independent Custody Visitors - who visit police custody suites across the area, without any advance notice, providing an impartial check on the conditions and welfare of those being held in police custody.
He said: “The scheme is primarily designed to highlight any current or potential issues in the custody areas.
“If there is a problem or complaint, most issues are dealt with at the time.”
