David Broome's Veganuary diary

To make up for the fact that the meal diary for my penultimate weekend of Vegnauary isn’t the most exciting, I thought I would share some facts I learned today, courtesy of Ben Williamson at PETA.

First among them is that a survey last week showed that - one year on from the horsemeat scandal – six per cent of Brits bought more veggie food over last 12 months.

I also learned that while Burton doesn’t seem to have any vegetarian/vegan eateries (please readers, let me know if I am wrong), there are the World Peace Cafe, The Cake Hole, and The Beetroot Tree in Derby.

Finally, it turns out there are many alternatives to cow’s milk - soya milk, oat milk, rice milk (white or brown), hazelnut milk; almond milk and hemp milk.

And it doesn’t have to be expensive either - you can buy a litre of soya milk (sweetened or unsweetened) from Aldi for just 59p.
