THERE are just two weeks to go until the nominations close for the 2014 East Staffordshire Sport Scholarship Awards.
The annual prizegiving ceremony is due to take place in the spring, but the deadline for applications will arrive on Monday, January 20.
The scheme is a chance to celebrate thwe achievements of individuals, teams and clubs.
Councillor Bernard Peters, deputy leader for service commissioning at East Staffordshire Borough Council, which is behind the awards, said: “East Staffordshire is proud of its sporting talent and the annual awards provide the ideal opportunity to celebrate the achievements of various individuals, teams and clubs.
“Awards are presented to people from all areas of sport, so if you know someone who has provided a service to sport as a participant or coach this is a good chance to nominate them for the annual award scheme.
“It’s fantastic to see that the council recognises the success of individuals and teams. Amateur sports are the main provider of grassroots participation. It is very important that the people involved, whether they are coaches or participants, are applauded for their efforts.”
The categories available are junior team, senior team, coach, junior volunteer, administrator, disabled performer, junior sports person and sports unsung hero.
