PUPILS at a South Derbyshire school were delighted when poet and broadcaster Ian McMillan entered one of its competitions on Twitter.
The Pingle School, in Swadlincote, set the ’12 Words of Winter’ competition for students to create a story with the theme of winter in exactly twelve words.
When Mr McMillan entered the competition, students were impressed with the entry.
Librarian at the school Vicky Tomlin told The Mail: “Ian McMillan is an amazing poet who is well known for his distinctive Yorkshire accent and was even poet in residence for Barnsley Football Club.
“When he entered our competition it was a real honour. We are always aiming to promote writing at school and the level of interest in our creative writing competition is very exciting.”
