DIGGER giant JCB has boosted plans to hold a big Burton jobs fair by agreeing to be the event’s main sponsor.
Sir Anthony Bamford’s multinational company pledged its backing for the event, scheduled to be held on Friday, September 13 , at the Pirelli Stadium, after an approach from Burton MP and lead organiser Andrew Griffiths.
This is the third year the event has been held and is part of the MPs bid to cut unemployment in the area.
Mr Griffiths told the Mail: “I am delighted to announce that JCB have again decided to back the jobs fair and come on board as our main sponsor.”
He has also won sponsorship from Punch Taverns, Spirit, Pirelli and Burton and South Derbyshire College.
“The reason that sponsorship is vital is because the event can be run without any costs and therefore will not cost the taxpayer a penny,” said Mr Griffiths.
“I thank these important East Staffordshire businesses for getting behind this event.
“It shows that they see the value of an event like this and how much of an impact it can have on the area and, more importantly, the people within the area who are looking for work.
“It is great example of local businesses showing social responsibilty.
“Now we have these big firms on board we will be soon looking at announcing the first raft of jobs on offer at the event and before we know it the event will be on us.”
The past two event have had more than 3,000 jobs up for grabs and major firms including Boots, UPS, Vodafone and Sky TV have backed the event before by offering jobs for people in the town.
