Drivers urged to avoid road after bus fire

A BURNT-out shell was all that remained of a coach following a blaze in a rural road in South Derbyshire.

Generic online breaking newsThe single-decker vehicle set fire at 4.25pm today in Acresford Road, Netherseal, near the Cricketts Inn.

Two fire engines from Swadlincote and Moira stations rushed to the scene and officers wearing breathing masks used two hoses to douse the flames.

Highways officers also attended to help clear up diesel that had been spilled on the road.

The alarm was raised by a passer-by who contacted the police. Firefighters were then called in by the police.

A Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “The road was shut and police and helped with traffic management.”

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area during the clean up.

It is not yet known how the fire was started or whether anyone was injured.
