COLLEGE students have raised vital funds to help support needy and vulnerable children.
Foundation learners at Burton and South Derbyshire College have raised much-needed cash for the children’s charity the Star Foundation from manning a stall selling festive goods at the college and town market.
The initiative was part of an annual enterprise project, in partnership with the charity Mencap, in which students sell goods which they designed all the way from the drawing board stage.
Goods include Christmas wreaths, cards, calendars and tree decorations.
Margot Nicolle, a lecturer at the college, said: “The project has not only helped learners to participate in the local community and raise money for local charities, but it has provided them with valuable skills and experience of a real work situation.
“The college’s partnership with Mencap is a valuable link to the community for our learners.
“We would also like to thank East Staffs Borough Council for kindly allowing us to use a market stall which gives learners the opportunity to integrate within the community.”
