Written byBY HELEN KREFT

A TEENAGER could reach the big time after being picked to face a live audience following a singing audition for a national competition.

Ewan Bourne, of Merlin Way, Woodville, has been given the big thumbs up by judges at the TeenStar auditions and has made it through to the Regional Finals of the new competition for teens and pre-teens.

The 13-year-old said: “I was on the internet looking for competitions to enter that would be better for me and saw TeenStar.

“I went along to the audition at the Riverside Centre, in Derby, and sang a song with my guitar.”

Ewan performed Mad World by Tears for Fears which was also covered by Gary Jules and Michael Andrews.

The Granville Sports College pupil said: “I sang Mad World because it compliments my singing and I put my own changes into it.

“I have had guitar lessons since 2007.”

He added: “I was nervous but they said ‘well done’ but said my guitar playing wasn’t as good as it should have been and said I was through to the regional finals but added that I should concentrate on my singing so I will be just singing in the next stage.”

Ewan, who is a member of Burton’s Little Theatre Company, would ike a career in musical theatre, saying: “I like performing and love the feedback you get from the audience.”

TeenStar is a national talent competition which searches for the UK’s best teens and pre-teens singers, singer/songwriters, rappers and vocalists of all genres who perform either covers or original material.

Ewan is now in the running to compete for a place in the National Final in The O2 in London. Thousands of hopefuls entered nationwide and hundreds of auditionees queued patiently on the day for their turn to impress the judges.

Audience members can buy tickets by visiting www.teenstarcompetition.co.uk when the performances are held in Derby on April 6.
