Festival of fireworks is a treat for all the senses

THOUSANDS are to feast their eyes on a world-renowned festival of fireworks in South Derbyshire next month.

Scropton fireworksThe UK Festival of Fireworks on Saturday, September 3, will see four pyromusical displays — which is where fireworks are launched in time to music.

In its fifth year at Catton Hall, this will be the first time that Burton fireworks firm Pyrotex Fireworx will feature at the festival.

Hannah Clarkson said that the team had been designing their display since January, and had also travelled to China to source fireworks for their part of the show.

“The festival is world-renowned within the pyrotechnics industry. Some of the best in the world will be doing a display,” she told the Mail.

“It means a lot to us to have been asked to take part because it’s a local event — but that puts extra pressure on us.

“It sounds a bit cheesy, but we want people to be proud of us.” The festival is organised by West Midlands- based Jubilee Fireworks who will be creating the grand finale.

There will be an international flavour from French firework company Feerie, and there is also a performance from Bedfordshire-based Alchemy Fireworks.

Festival bosses said that more than four thousand people are expected to attend this year’s event.

Jubilee managing director Chris Pearce said: “In essence, the festival is one enormous fireworks extravaganza.

“Because it’s not a competition it liberates the companies to do what they want, taking off any pressures of wanting to win a contest.

“We invited the companies that we have because we feel they are the best at what they do.

“It is quite a small industry but everyone is quite supportive of each other, even though we are essentially competing against each other for work.

“This is a great example of how people in the industry can work together.

“It is not like a November fireworks display.

It is for people that enjoy fireworks, and it gives people the chance to experience them from an artistic perspective.”

Tickets for the event are now on sale, priced £22 for adults, £15 for under 16s, £18 for senior citizens and family tickets (two adults and two children) £60, and can be purchased from www.festivaloffirewor ks.co.uk.
