BOSSES who have spent nearly £5 million on an equipment hire business have insisted the firm’s future remains in Burton and South Derbyshire.
Neil Stothard (pictured), group managing director of Vp, spoke exclusively to the Mail days after the firm splashed out £4.6 million to buy Mr Cropper, based in Walton Road, Drakelow.
He was at pains to stress that he was ‘committed to keeping the successful business in the area’.
He went on to say that the 20-strong workforce at the firm, which also operates from sites in Newton Solney and Burton, could look forward on investment to help the business grow – and also the possibility of new jobs at the firm.
Mr Stothard said: “Vp is a Harrogate-based specialist rental business across the UK and Europe dealing with all manner of different items, industries and trades.
“For some time we have been eyeing up Mr Cropper as it is well known in the construction market for its patented specialist pile cutting equipment offering.
“It has been successfully business for many years and has a great track record – so when the opporuntiy arose for us to add it to our portfolio we did just that.
“We see the future of the firm in the area and we are looking to investing some money and to try and improve the firm.
“We want to help them expand and maybe recruit more staff in the future.
“It is a successful business, despite the recession, and we are looking to build on that.”
Mr Cropper was established 13 years ago and is best known for being the main shirt sponsor for Burton Albion for the past three years.
The firm was run by Rob Brown, who was formerly the managing director of Roger Bullivant before leaving the business last year
