Football ban for Burton Albion disorder

A 27-YEAR-OLD man has been banned from attending football matches for three years after he admitted becoming involved in mass disorder in Burton.

Rotherham fan, Steve Dobson, also narrowly missed out on a prison sentence.

He was among the men who were charged with football disorder prior to, during, and after Burton Albion’s league fixture clash with Rotherham United at the Pirelli Stadium.

He has appeared at Burton Magistrates’ Court to admit using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, in the town, after the clash on February 9.

Dobson has been sentenced to 12 weeks in prison suspended for 12 months

In court, he was told by magistrates that this was a ‘frightening incident for people affected who had nothing to do with the football match.’

Dobson, of Meadow Bank Road, Rotherham, must also complete an alcohol workbook, be under curfew for eight weeks from 8pm to 7am every day.

He will also pay £85 court costs and a £80 victim surcharge and was given a three-year banning order.
