Martin Roe, of Songalt Ltd, has been given permission by South Derbyshire District Council to build five detached houses with garages on land at Archers Barn Farm, off Mount Pleasant Road.
The 1,582 sq m site had been a working farm but more recently was used as a base for a heavy plant business in connection with the construction industry which has since closed.
It currently has two large storage buildings and a brick built single garage which will be removed.
The homes will each have four bedrooms each and three car parking spaces.
The applicant has said each property will be provided with sufficient private amenity space and garden area to the rear, with open plan gardens to the front.
In conclusion, he added: “The application site has a history of residential planning permission granted, and the site still complies with current planning policies, and the proposed residential development is an appropriate development for the site.”
Conditions place on the applicant will ensure building work starts within three years.
