Forum 'spreads the warmth' thanks to Age UK campaign

Written byHELEN KREFT

OLDER people in Swadlincote have enjoyed Christmas food and entertainment served up by The South Derbyshire Forum.

Thirty-six regulars at the Bus Park Café were treated to a buffet lunch and entertainment, then a week later 36 residents of Castle Court and Netherhall Residential Homes were treated to a party in the café.

Also in December The Forum entertained residents at Castle Court (42 people) to afternoon tea and a singalong.

The diners join more than 11,000 older people across the country who have tucked into a Christmas dinner thanks to a Winter Cheer Grant provided by Age UK as part of its Spread the Warmth campaign.

Gill Farrington, chairman of The South Derbyshire Forum, said: “We have been so grateful to Age UK to allot us the funding again this year. Everyone who attended received a gift provided by the forum and all meals on wheels have received a gift too. The children from Pingle school also sent a small hamper to our customers.”
